Kovalam

As the name Kovalam suggests, this area of Trivandrum city of Kerala really is a ‘grove of coconut trees’. From a local fishing area to one of the most important tourist destinations in India, Kovalam has guided lakhs of tourists yearly with its lighthouse beach alone.

When upon the nephew of Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi, the Maharaja of Travancore brought their beach house namely Halcyon Castle into the limelight, the Britishers recognized the place as a potential tourist destination. About six kilometers from Kovalam is one famous freshwater lake, Velliyani. Being spread over an area of seven acres, it’s water makes for most of the drinking and irrigation in the nearby regions.
