Mahakal Temple
The Mahakal Temple or Mahakal Mandir is a sacred Hindu temple in Darjeeling dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has self-manifested idols of the tri-gods Brahma, Bishnu, and Maheswar.
The temple is thought to be built in the year 1782. The temple sees a great faith and devotion among the devotees. There are even many mythological stories relating to this temple.
It is said that the temple stands in the place of previously existing Dorjeling Monastery. This monastery was later destroyed by the invaders and now sees a new location. This holy temple sees both Hindus and Buddhists chanting prayers.
The environment here is divine. One should visit this place to seek lord Mahakal’s blessings and also to cover the spots nearby.
