Darjeeling

Darjeeling is an important city and a municipality of West Bengal, India. This beautiful city is tucked in the Lesser Himalayas at an elevation of 6,700 ft (2,042.2 m) and is noted for its tea industry, its views of Kangchenjunga mountain (world’s third-highest mountain), and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Darjeeling tops the country in selling tea globally. The exotic black tea developed here at Darjeeling makes its name in the international market as well. The city also is famed for its steam locomotive which has been disappeared from the major part of the world. The city gives a chance to enjoy the vintage steam-driven trains.

The city is rich in sal, oak, semi-evergreen, temperate and alpine forests. The prime flora and fauna conservation areas of the city are The Lloyd’s Botanical Garden and The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park.

To gobble here are its authentic cuisines like momos, steamed sticky rice, and other steamed foods of the region. Rice, noodles and potatoes make up the dominant part of the Darjeeling cuisine partly due to the cold climate. Don’t forget tasting Thukpa here, which is of Tibetan origins. It is homemade noodle soup with meat, eggs and/or vegetables. Other exotic foods to mention here Kinema, Chhurpi, Shaphalay, (Tibetan bread stuffed with meat).
