Ajatshatru Fort
Another yet important tourist attraction at Rajgir is the Ajatshatru Fort. The mighty fort belonged to the king Ajatshatru during his rule over the Magadha empire around 2500 years ago in the 6th century BC. Folk stories say that King Ajatshatru imprisoned his father Bimbisara in jail inside this fort after succeeding his throne. Bimbisar chose this place for imprisonment as he was a great follower of buddha and wished to see from here, Lord Buddha ascending the Gridhakuta peak to deliver his sermons every morning. The fort also houses a stupa of 6.5 square meters. The fort is in ruins now, but one should visit here to witness one of the most ancient forts in India.
