Onam Festival

Onam Festival, regarded as the celebration of Kerala State’s it’s own festival. Festival of Onam is the main religious event in the temple. The festival is celebrated from Atham to Thiruvonam during the month of Chingam.

The temple showcases dance and musical performances of several cultures.

The temple festival begins with flag hoisting locally known as Kodiyettu and ends with lowering of flag and bathing the idol, a ceremony known as Aarattu.

The other ceremony named Chaarthu, is carried on every day where the idol of Vamana is decorated in the form of one of the Ten Avatars of Lord Vishnu.

The hallmark of this festival is the grand banquet or Sadya, which is rich with people from different caste and religion.

The Pakalpooram is a grand procession conducted on the 9th day of the festival and another procession called Seeveli is held on final day, where the main deity Vamana led on a ceremonial elephant around the temple surroundings, along with a group of about eight caparisoned elephants accompanied by Panchavadyam
