Wayanad is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kerala. With its extreme beauty and tranquility, Wayanad attracts a lot of people towards it. Along the northern region of Kerala, midst near the Western Ghats, this beautiful hill station offers something to every person. The name Wayanad is the modified form of Vayal Nadu, which means land of rice plantations. With more than half of the people engaged in agricultural activities, this place is surrounded by paddy fields, tea estates, and coffee plantations.
Wayanad has the unique Glass temple at Koottamunda and the Banasura Sagar Dam, the only earth dam in Kerala. With no railways and coastal areas, this place is believed to be in existence from the New Age civilization. Wayanad is also famous for being home to 8 scheduled tribe groups: Adiyan, Mullukkurman, Paniyan, Vettakkuruman Wayanad Kadar, Kurichyan, Kattuniakkan, and Thachaanadan Mooppan.
The Chembra Peak, Edakkal caves, Pookode Lake, Kuruvadweep, Lakkidi, Kalpetta are some of the famous spots in Wayanad.
