Xuanzang Memorial

Xuanzang memorial was opened for public in the year 2007, but its initiation dates back to 1957 by the joint efforts of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, and Zhou En-Lai, the first Premier of China. This memorial can be regarded as the brainchild of Venerable Jagdish Kashyap, founder, and director of Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, who proposed the idea of its construction. This memorial was built to immortalize the Chinese monk-scholar Xuanzang, who came from China to India in the 7th century to study at the Nalanda Monastery. It was through his work that the world was able to discover the origin of Buddhism in India. The Memorial sees the Chinese and Indian styles of architecture. The architecture of the building is worth appreciating. Every detailed is enchanted to render a beautiful look both in interior and in exteriors. The perfect amalgamation of Indian and Chinese architecture makes a peaceful place for learning, meditation and paying homage to Xuanzang. The whole of the complex displays Zoomorphic symbols representing power, prestige, respect, good luck, etc. The Memorial houses a bronze statue of Xuanzang on the altar, posing in the preaching posture.
