Nalanda Archaeological Museum
Another important place to be visited in Nalanda is the Nalanda Archaeological Museum. The Museum saw it’s established in the year 1917, to preserve the precious items from primordial times. The museum houses hall and galleries with different collectibles. One can see in the Hall, the sculptures from the 16th century like Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, Trailokya Vijay, Maitreya, Nagaraja, etc. Also, are the remains of Nalanda University which were discovered in the excavation. The first gallery houses fifty-seven sculptures and images including those of Heruka, Khasarpana, Marichi, Vaishali-miracle, Kubera, Shiva Parvati, Rishabhnath and Lakshmi Ganesh. The second one includes stuccos, terracotta, iron inscriptions, and implements. Third one houses around ninety-three specimens of bronze. To appreciate are two pictures of Lord Buddha in a posture of blessing. Apart from this are many more collectibles to see. The fourth gallery houses thirty-six sculptures made of stone, which includes those of Lord Buddha, Lord Vishnu, Padmapani Bodhisattva, Vajrapani and Marichi. The museum also holds two enormous terra-cotta jars, dating back from the first century.
