Samdruptse Hill
Samdruptse Hill at Namchi is a famous tourist place in West Bengal. The place is famed for holding the Samdruptse Monastery.
Samdruptse literally means ‘Wish-fulfilling Hill’. The Buddhists have a great faith in this hill holding the sacred monastery. According to the popular belief, the monastery actually sits upon a dormant volcano which has been kept quiet because of the power of the monastery and the prayers by the Buddhist priests.
The place is also famed for holding the mammoth statue of the Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), the holy patron saint of Sikkim. The statue is 45 Mts tall overlooking the entire city and keeping it blessed. It is believed that this engineering marvel took around seven years to complete.
One can flight few steps to reach the top of the hill and the monastery. The colorful flags with the prayers written on it decorate the way up to the hill. It is a peaceful experience to visit this place.
