ZOOLOGICAL PARK  THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

The Zoological Park in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, was established as early as 1859. Its located in a well maintained botanical garden. Its one of the first zoo in India. Spread over in 55 acres of land located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram.

The Zoo has around 75 different species of animals not only from India but also from abroad. It also has several species of animals and birds from Ethiopian and Australian Zoo geographic regions. The Lion tailed Macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Indian Rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger are prominent among the indigenous endangered fauna. Giraffe, Hippo, Zebra, Cape Buffalo are the guests from African region. It will usher in a new era with the completion of the ongoing modernization works in the Zoo. Thrilling encounters with the animals out in their open air landscapes are becoming reality.

There is also a reptile house here. It consists of different snakes including an Anaconda. It is a plastic-free zone. The park is open daily from 09:00 to 18:15 hrs. On Monday,the zoo is not open for visitors. With huge trees like frangipani and jacaranda dotting the sprawling lawns and wild fowl swimming in the lake, it is like a small jungle in the heart of the city.

The Museum and Zoo are situated in the Museum Compound right in the heart of the temple city of Thiruvananthapuram

• 3 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station
• 9 Kms from Airport

Approachable by frequent buses, Autorikshaws, Taxi cars etc
