Simhachalam Temple

Simhachalam is one of the significant pilgrimage centers of the 32 Narasimha temples situated in Andhra Pradesh. This site is located at a distance of 10 miles north of the Visakhapatnam town, on a hill that is about 800 meters (2,600 ft) above the mean sea level. This hill is a continuation of the Kailasa hill range which is the part of the Eastern Ghats. Together with Srikurmam and others, it was considered an important center of Vaishnavism in medieval times.

The temple was discovered by the historians with the aid of an inscription which belonged to the Chalukya Chola king- Kulottunga’s kingdom in the 9th century AD. t. At the end of the 13th century, during the reign of the Eastern Ganga King Narasimhadeva I, the temple complex underwent dramatic structural changes. Between 1564 AD to 1604 AD, the temple endured a  period of religious inactivity for about 40 years. The temple is almost of the height of 1,500 meters.

Simhachalam Temple is a notable Hindu temple in the city of Visakhapatnam and is originally it is known as the Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple. This shrine is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is situated on the Simhachalam Hill.

it is one of the famous temples where Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Lord Narasimha, which is considered to be one of his incarnations. This incarnation of the Lord Vishu has a human torso but the head is of the lion’s. You will find this to be appearing in the Tribhanga pose.

Regularly, thousands of devotees visit this temple. Thus, at any time of year, you can pay a visit to this temple. The best time, however, is during the festivals such as Diwali Narasimha Jayanti, Chandanotsava, Navratrotsava, Kalyanotsava,  Krishna Janmashtami, etc. This place is easily accessible by road as well as by rail.
