Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Parkis located in Anamalai Tiger Reserve.The IGWLS is managed by the Wildlife Warden and falls within the administrative control of the Coimbatore Forest Circle headed by the Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore. The park has a large tourist complex at Top Slip that houses many cottages, rooms, and dormitories for visitors. Visitors can get around the park by trekking and a safari van. The Leopard is the more visible predator in this Park. Elephant, Gaur, Wild boar, Chital, Sambar, Muntjac and Giant Squirrel are quite commonly sighted. The four species of primates found here are the Common and Nilgiri Langur,and the Bonnet and Lion-tailed macaque. The bird life is rich and varied and the Malabar whistling thrush, Grey jungle fowl, Malabar and Great pied Hornbills, Ceylon frog-mouth and Malabar trogon are all found here.

Aliyar Dam or Azhiyar Reservoir is located in Pollachi town of Coimbatore district in Tamilnadu. This Scenic spot is the foothills of Valparai hills. The Aliyar Dam was constructed during 1959-1969 across the Aliyar river, mainly for irrigation purposes. The project was commissioned in September 2002 to generate Hydro Electric Power. The dam offers some ideal getaways including a park, garden, aquarium, play area and a mini Theme-Park maintained by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation for visitors enjoyment. The scenery is beautiful, with mountains surrounding three quarters of the reservoir.

The monkey falls is situated in between Pollachi and Valparai. An interesting trek route at the Monkey Falls, a linear stretch of evergreen forests surrounded by rocky cliffs, is available and regular guided treks are conducted during favorable season. Prior request should be given to the Tamil Nadu Forest Department headquarters at Pollachi before a fortnight. Monkey falls is an ideal place for little children and adults to take a bath. Ticket fee is Rs 20 to enter inside the falls vicinity. (Precaution: In case if you parked the bike in roadside beware of Monkeys since it will open the tank cover and will take the things inside the tank cover. Also be careful near waterfall since in some place it will make you to slip and there is a chance of acquiring injury.)

  • Loam’s View Point

This tourist paradise is situated between Valparai and Pollachi. It is in the 9th Hair Pin Bend. It is named after Mr. Mathew Loam, who marked the road in 1886.Its a beautiful view point that lies in on of the hair pin bends on the way to valparai from pollachi. Its close by Aliyar dam , on this point you will get a beautiful view of the Dam.

  • Sri Balaji Temple

Balaji temple is owned by the Peria Karamalai Tea Industries. This most beautiful tourist attraction is situated in Karamalai ( Around a distance of 10kms from Valparai) Vehicles are not permitted here because of that you should walk uphill for about 500 mts to reach temple. The Temple Dharsan time 6.30am to 12noon and 3pm to 7pm.Photography is very strictly prohibited with prominent signboards proclaiming this right from the estate entrance.

  • Chitti Vinayagar Temple

Chitti Vinayagar Temple is built by Birla and now this temple is owned by the Jayashree Tea Industries and is surrounded by tea plantation.Situated around 3Kms from Valparai. The main specialty of the temple is that the idol is engraved out of a single block of stone.

  • Karamalai Annai Velankanni Church

Karamalai Annai Velankanni Church is located on a hilly area inside the tea plantation is unique because of the architectural excellence, location and tranquil atmosphere etc.This church is located around 10 km away from Valparai and it was constructed in the year 2003. An annual festival is organized here every year, in the month of September.

Sholayar dam is a Hydro Electric project of Tamilnadu State, situated around 20kms from Valparai.The Solaiyar dam is a vital reservoir under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project and has a water storage capacity of 160 ft (49 m). The reservoir’s overflowing waters are let into the Parambikulam Reservoir through the saddle dam.

  • Nirar dam

This dam is built for multipurpose project such as irrigation, Hydro electricity production. Dam is situated in a wonderful location covered by a dense forest. There is a waterfalls near by the dam which resembles the Cascade. Situated at a distance of 15kms from Valparai.

  • Chinnakallar Watrerfalls

This falls is located In a dense forest area the white roaring waters and whispering of trees (deep forest) will welcome you here . The place is scary and silent you must need guts and lot of curiosity to visit this place. Chinnakkallar is known as the Cherapunji of Tamil Nadu because of the maximum rainfall received.

  • Nallamudi Poonjolai Vally View

This is a beautiful view point located in Nallamudi Tea Estate near the Sangiliroad (around 15Kms from Valparai). You must walk for about 1 km inside the tea estate to reach this view point, you may see fresh Elephant Dung, Pugmarks & Droppings of Leopards and Bears that visit here regularly at nights, from here you will get an excellent view of Anamudi – The highest peek of south india (located in Rajamalai National Park near Munnar )

  • Number Parai

This is also a beautiful view point nearby Sangiliroad close to Valparai town. Do not forget to visit this place when you travel to valparai. The mist will touch you and go often.When the mist touches you.. do not get scared but be at the same place where you stand till it gets cleared, because the mist place will be of deep valley the other side. Be at your limits this place is risky for children. please do not let them play here.Some times Elephants and Leopards visit here at night . So better take local village people for extra support.

The Grass Hills is a part of Indra Gandhi wildlife sanctuary & national park. It is surrounded by a green grass environment. Its a beautiful site of high green grasses on a mountain slope, which is a protected area, because of that you have to obtain permission from wildlife warden for enter the Grass Hills. Nilgiri Thar is native of this place apart from Elephants, Bison, Indian Gaur, Bear, Nilgiri Langur etc. and a wide variety of birds including Hornbills. It’s a UNESCO World heritage Site.

  • Manampalli Forest

There are no words to describe this  beauty which adorns the crown of Valparai. situated around 20Kms from Valparai. This reserve forest provides adventurous treks, a high probability to sight some of endangered species.  There is a trekking shed (rest house) on the banks of Manampalli River which doubles up as a base camp for those bent on adventure. Prior permission from the Forest Department required.
