South Park Street Cemetery
South Park Street Cemetery sees its place on Mother Teresa Sarani, Kolkata. It is an 18th-century non-church cemetery and considered to be one of the earliest in the world. It was opened in the year 1767. The cemetery is now a heritage site under the Archaeological Survey of India.
Not although not a much-loved site, but this place is an important place of Kolkata. The tombs here are artistic and are a mix of Gothic and the Indo-Saracenic style.
An interesting grave here is the Grave 363, which does not contain the name of the person but an epitaph reading- “A virtuous mother (died 1825)”. The oldest grave in this graveyard is noted to be of Mrs.S.Pearson(1768).
