Raj Bhavan
Raj Bhavan is now the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal, located at Marx Engels Beethi Rd, Governors Camp, B.B.D. Bagh, Kolkata.
The stunning structure was erected in the year 1803 and was known as Government House before the independence of India. The building was the official residence of the Viceroy of India before independence and later after independence became the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal and the name was changed to Raj Bhavan.
The building now is the example of one of the finest colonial mansions of the state. It sees the Neoclassical style of architecture. The mighty building underwent many changes and renovations over the years.
The entire Raj Bhavan compound is surrounded by a balustraded wall. Also, there is a grand arched gateway at each of the four cardinal points on the premises. The entire building houses nearly 60 rooms, public halls, verandahs, porticos, banquets & halls, and the sumptuous Throne room.
It is truly a piece of architectural importance.
