Kappal Matha Church

About 70 km from the city, in a coastal village of Uvari, Kappal Matha Church is located. The church is dedicated to the Christian Goddess St. Mary. The Church remains the site of attraction because of its unique shape. The church is designed in the shape of an airplane over the ship. The ship describes the main source of livelihood of the people of the coastal region. The church situated near the shore makes an illusion of ship floating over the waves of the sea. The original Church underwent heavy insults due to the erosion from the sea, so the present Church was built in 1974. The local people have great faith in the presiding Goddess. Festivals- The church summons annual celebrations on 18th September.
