If you want to drench yourself in the history of the country, then this place is what you were looking for. The ruined Droog Fort says many events of the past. the historic events it would have witnessed flashes infant of the eyes on seeing this place. Going to the history, the fort was constructed in 16th century by the Famous Ruler of Mysore- Tipu Sultan. The fort was used by him as an outpost in the 18thcentury. The fort is now in bad condition and sees only walls and a watchtower. The fort is although visited by every tourist visiting Coonoor, but is also popular among the trekkers as it provides a unique and moderate level trekking trail. The place also sees an interesting eye of the bird watchers as it offers exotic species of birds and animals like the Malabar Squirrel and the Flying Foxes. You might be surprised to know the other name of the fort- Bakasura Malai, because of its religious connection with the demon Bakasur.
