Velavan Temple / Murugan Temple

On the highest peaks of Yelagiri hills sits the Velavan Temple or the Murugan Temple, which is the popular Hindu pilgrimage. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple witnessed its construction in the year 1964. Apart from the religious importance, the temple also is a beautiful tourist view point. Blessed with the divine atmosphere and hilly surrounding, the place imparts inner peace to devotees visiting here. Because of the popularity of the temple, thousands of tourists and devotees flock here every year. The temple holds a huge statue of the mythological character Ghatothgajan posing standing posture.
The temple also holds a beautiful idol of Lord Murugan and Valli in the form of Kuravan and Kurathi respectively. Lord Ganesha is also worshipped here, in a separate shrine. The temple commences the annual gathering during the Tamil month of Adi (July – August), which sees great celebration and grand gathering.
