Thiruvaiyaru

Travel for a distance of 13 km from Thanjavur to reach Thiruvaiyaru. The place is located on the banks of the river Kaveri. Thiruvaaiyaru gains fame because of its old Shiva temple. The Panchanatheesvarar Temple covers a holy land of over a 14-acre. The temple campus provides the divine and serene vibes.

Timings – 6 AM to 12 PM and 4-9 PM.

The town is also known for the famous poet of the region- Thyagaraja. He is known to be the father of Carnatic music. One can visit the house where this great poet used to compose some of the greatest works of all times. The riverbank also sees this saint’s samadhi. His works included many devotional songs praising Lord Rama. The annual music festival dedicated to this late saint and poet is held with great devotion and zeal. Near the Shiva temple is the one-roomed house where Tyagaraja composed some of his greatest works. On the banks of the river is the samadhi of the saint where music festival takes place annually.
