Thillai Kaliamman Temple
The Thillai Kaliamman temple is a famous Kali temple situated at Chidambaram. The temple saw its construction during the rule of Chola dynasty by King Kopperunjingan (ruling between 1229 AD and 1278 AD).
The temple sees its religious background as a repay of a lost on stake by Goddess Shakti to lord Shiva. The betted that one who lost in the dance competition would have to reside outside. So goddess Shakti Choose this place and thus this temple was built dedicated to her. The black idol of Goddess Kali holds a Diamond on her forehead.
Festivals- The temple commences annual celebrations during the month of Vaigasi and Navarathiri.
