Tenkasi: the city of temples.
Tenkasi was founded by Pandyan kings who ruled over ancient Tamil Nadu for long period. It is the gateway of Kerala and Tamilnadu and it is the 34th district of Tamilnadu which was announced by Tamilnadu assembly recently on 18th of July 2019. It is surrounded by western ghats from the three sides and a river called Chittar adds the natural serenity to this divine district. Tenkasi is mostly famous for its temples which shows different sculptures carved on walls during ancient rule. And it says the story of culture prevailed in ancient Tamilnadu. The word Tenkasi itself means it is the Kasi of South India where Kasiviswanathar Temple is situated. There are numerous ancient temples and nearby waterfalls in Tenkasi. All temples have a lot of stories to tell regarding ancient culture and life of Tenkasi. Previously Tenkasi was a town in Tirunelveli district of Tamilnadu. Most of the tourist are attracted to this place to enjoy Courtellam waterfalls. The monsoon season from July to October is the best time to visit Tenkasi since the waterfalls here add up its beauty to the peak concerning the intensity of rain. And the winters from November to February also makes Tenkasi a divine Nagar for tourists.
Tenkasi is also a land of rivers where the Chittar River, Tambarabarani River, Manimuthar River, and Pachaiyar River flows around. It is also a commercial center with theatres, showrooms, and restaurants. There are several restaurants in Tenkasi which offers a wider range of South Indian foods. The Pazhaya Courtalaruvi or old Courtalfalls where we can feel the core beauty and freshness of nature. The waterfalls between the rocks and reach at the valley from a height of 200ft forms this fall. Men and women have separate bathing space in this area.
