St.Francis church, Kochi

St.Francis church is one of the oldest European churches in India was built in 1503 in Fort Kochi. St. Francis church is of great historical significance as this church is believed to be existence from the European Colonial struggle.
The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama on his third visit to India in 1524 died in Kochi, and his body was buried within this church. Later the remainings were removed to Lisbon, so this church is known among the people to have the remainings of Vasco da Gama.
This church is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India, but it is owned by Kochi diocese. There will be prayer services on Sundays and special days. It will be kept open for visitors every weekend.
