Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple – Keezha Thirupathi
Located near Mela Thiruvenkatanathapuram Temple, Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple is an ancient Hindu temple worshipping Lord Vishnu in the form of Varadaraja Perumal. The holy temple sits on the shores of Thamirabarani River in Keezha Tiruvenkatanathapuram or Keezha Tirupathi. The construction of the temple dates back to 12th century AD by King Verapandian. The main sections of the temple are Kubera vassal, Maha mandapam, Artha mandapam, and Garbhagriha. The temple holds the beautiful idols of Sri Varadaraja Perumal with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. The lord gracefully holds ‘chakra and dhana Rekha’ and ‘sankhu and kadayutham’ in his four hands. The other gods making their place in the temple are Garuda and Anjaneya. The temple holds many stories with it. The miracles performed by the presiding deity is often said by the peoples. People believe that on placing a coin in the hand of the Lord, the money will multiply. So, the lord is also popular by the name Dhana Rekha Perumal. Festivals- The temple commences annual gatherings on- The Purattasi Shravanam- Garuda Seva, Margazhi Utsavam and Thai Dolotsavam.
