Sirkazhi
Sirkazhi is a renowned religious town of the Nagapattinam District. It is infamous by the name Toniappar or Tonipuram, in which “Toni” meaning “boat” in Tamil. The place is mostly known for the Sirkali Brahmapureeswarar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is spectacular and holds three shrines namely Brahmapureeswarar, Thoniappar, and Sattainathar, where lord Shiva is seen as Shivalingam, Uma Maheswarar, and Bhajravar respectively. Also, the place holds a scared, Lord Vishnu’s temple,- kazheesirama Vinnagaram temple. The place holds 22 teerthams, one among which is the famous Brahma Teertham. Festivals- The town sees great celebrations in January on the occasion of Makara Pongal, which lasts up to 3 days. The place also celebrates Maha Shivaratri grandly.
