Pykara Dam and Reservoir

Travel for 22 km from Ooty, on Ooty – Mysore road to reach this beautiful destination. The Dam is popular because of the scenic view it offers. People often flock here in groups to enjoy the beauty of nature and also go boating. The Pykara Dam is built over the Pykara River, which is the largest river in Nilgiris district. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation established a boathouse on the Pykara reservoir, which attracts lots of tourists as well. The people can also hire a speed boat or motorboat from the boathouse and enjoy their day. The dam has one of the oldest power plants of the state. The plant generates about 60 megawatts electricity, to serve the nearby areas. This plant also holds the prestige of being a heritage power plant.
