Nagore
Nagore is a small town in Nagapattinam near the Bay of Bengal. The town is famous for its sacred pilgrim of Nagore Dargah. As the name stands, the place is an old Islamic shrine, believed to be built in the 5th century. The sacred shrine is dedicated to Meeran Sahib Abdul Qadir Shahul Hamid Badshah.
The Dargah is also looked upon because of its fine architecture and craftsmanship. The Dargah also houses the largest tower famed as Periya Minara, which is 131 feet high. Inside the Dargah is a holt tank, the water of which is believed to have curative properties. Along with the famous Dargah, the town also has the popular Seeralamman Temple. The town celebrates Kandhuri festival during October and November with great pomp and joy.
