The frontier of the Secretariat building in Patna sees an immortal historical site- The Martyr’s Memorial or The Shahid Smarak. The memorial consists of a life-size stone statue of the seven brave students or martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the spirit of Independence, supporting the Quit India movement in 1942. The memorial showcases the statues of the seven martyrs, who were no more than 16-17 years old, marching towards the secretariat to host the Indian Flag on the building without any violence. The seven martyrs, who still reside in the hearts of the people are- Umakant Prasad Sinha, Ramanand Singh, Satish Prasad Jha, Jagatpati Kumar, Devipada Choudhry, Rajendra Singh, and Ramgovind Singh.
