Mariamman Temple – Samayapuram
The construction of the temple is believed to be around the 18th century by the King Vijayaraya Chakkaravati. The temple was built as an act of gratitude towards the Goddess after winning a tough battle by the king. The temple worships Goddess Parvati in the form of Devi Mariamman. The idol of the goddess is made of sand and clay and have supernatural powers to cure chronic illness. The temple is flocked by the persons suffering from measles. The goddess is known to take away the illness for sure. The goddess is served with Mavilakku, a sweet dish liked by the goddess, made up of jaggery, ghee, and rice flour. The goddess also sees fast on the month of Masi, for the betterment of her devotees. She is served with only juices and Mavilakku during these 28days. She is also showered with flowers during her fasting days. Festivals- The temple sees thousands of devotees during the sacred time of Mariamman. The temple also commences the Thai Poosam festival. The Chariot Festival seen in April is another major festival of the temple.
