Chakrapani Temple

Travel for 3 km from Kumbakonam Railway Station, to reach the famous Hindu temple of Chakrapani. The temple sits on the southern bank of Cauvery River in Kumbakonam town. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The lord is worshipped in the form of a discus or Chakra. The lord is seen as Chakrapani with eight arms and Sudarshanavalli Thayar. The lord possesses a third eye on his forehead.

The striking thing to notice is- Lord Brahma, Surya and Agni depicted as worshipping the Lord in this temple. The inclusions of the temple are its exquisite pillars. The temple also holds a bronze image of king Serfoji II worshipping the lord. The temple conducts special pujas or rituals named Sudarshana Homam, Thirumanjanam and Sahasranamarchana. Festivals- The temple commences great gathering and celebrations in Chitirai (April – May) for 10 days Brahmotsavam, Chariot Festival, Pavitrotsavam, the Float festival or Theppotsavam in Vaikasi.
