Birla Planetarium

Birla planetarium aka Taramandal at Kolkata holds the prestige of being the largest planetarium in Asia and the largest but one in the world. This mighty Planetarium was established in July 1963. The institute aims in acquainting every single life with the power of science and to keep all friendly with the universe and its components. To make maximum people understand about our universe and the milky way, regular shows are held in languages including Hindi, English, Bengali, and other regional languages. There is also an electronics laboratory and an astronomy gallery, having wide collection of paintings and astronomical models. The halls and the walkways of this planetarium are decorated with the paintings and the pictures of the astronauts and the celestial bodies to keep the interest of the visitors high. The planetarium has the capacity of accommodating 688 people at a time for a show. One can look for the different timings of the shows available according to the choice of language.
