Ayikudi Balasubramanya Temple
Ayikudi Balasubramanya Temple is a small Hindu temple located on the banks of Hanuman river in the small village named Ayikudi at Tenkasi. The story of the place as- Lord Hanuman went to search Goddess Sita, who was abducted by Ravana. On the way to his search, he felt thirsty and scrapped the land with the sharp edge of his tail, from where the river emerged, and so the name Hanuman River. Lord Rama also rested on the banks of this river. The temple worships Lord Rama and Lord Subramanya. There are carvings of Lord Rama, Sita, and Hanuman on the pillars of the temple. The temple is flocked by the devotees all year long. The temple got its shape in the year 1931, before which it was worshipped only as a man pam made up of coconut leaves.
The temple holds a beautiful idol of Balasubhramanya Swamy with four hands and a peacock and lotus. There are idols of other gods as well. The temple has a Keralan style of architecture and practices the methods as well. The temple commences many festivals throughout the year and is always flooded with devotees. The beautiful Srinagar or decoration is worth appreciating. You must visit the temple to find some inner peace.
