Shevaroy Temple Viewpoint

The Shevaroyan hill in Yercaud houses the ancient Shevaroyan Temple. The temple sees an altitude of 5326 feet, and the makes the highest point in the Yercaud hills. The temple is mainly a cave temple. The temple sees Lord Shevaroyan as the main deity as he is worshiped by the local tribal people, besides him, the temple also worships Goddess Kaveri. Lord Shevaroyan is believed to be the god of Servaroyan hills while Goddess Kaveri is considered as the goddess of River Cauvery. The goddess is considered as the guarding deity of the 67 villages nearby. The temple has narrow and dark caves and is believed to be as old as 2000 years. The temple cave is believed to extend till the Kaveri River in Karnataka, covering a huge distance of 480 km. The stories reveal that Tippu Sultan hides in this cave during a war. Apart from this, the perk is the wishing well near the temple. The locals believe in throwing the stones from the temple to the well for fulfilling their wish. The temple provides a scenic view of the surrounding hills and Yercaud town and Nagaur and thus is also one of the important viewpoints the city. Festivals- The temple sees its annual celebration in May, with great joy by the local tribal people.
