The Gandhi Museum, Madurai, is an important Gandhi Sangrahalaya of the country. It houses numerous memories from the life of the Father of the Nation. The structure of the present museum was built in 1670 AD for Rani Mangammal of Naick Dynasty and was known as Tammukam Palace, later in the year 1955, the Tamil Nadu State Government made it the Gandhi Memorial Museum. Attractions of the place-The blood-stained clothes of Mahatma Gandhi and handwritten letters by Gandhi are the prime attractions of this place. Other attractions being Image gallery from the Indian freedom movement days, the Handicrafts exhibition, The Hall of Relics, the Khadi & Village Industries section, a library and an open-air theatre for the cultural programs. One can also purchase a book of choice about Mahatma Gandhi from the takeaway store. Places Nearby- Once in the Gandhi Museum premises, you can also visit the nearby places as – Madurai Government Museum, Meenakshi Temple, Goripalayam Dargah, Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal, Koodal Azhagar Temple, Sri Agathiyar Nadi Jothida Nilayam, St. Mary’s Cathedral Church, Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam and ISCKON temple.
