Krishnapuram Venkatachalapathy Temple

Travel for 13 km from Tirunelveli to reach the famous ancient Hindu temple- Venkatachalapathy Temple. as the temple is situated at Krishnapuram village in Tirunelveli district, it is also commonly known as Krishnapuram Temple. The temple worships Lord Vishnu. The temple is thought to be built by Krishnappa Nayak (1563-72) from Madurai Nayak dynasty, in the Dravidian style of architecture. The temple is spreader across 1.8 acres of land and is enclosed within a granite wall.  The temple is famous for its fine sculptures and craftsmanship. The artistic value of the temple is high. The main attraction of the temple is its 110 feet tall five-tiered raja gopuram. The inclusions of the temple are- Pandal Mandap, Vahana Mandap, Ranga Mandap, and Jeeyar Mandap. The idol of the deity is in the form of Venkatachalapathy in standing posture with four arms holding the Sankhu and Chakra, and Abayamudra and Kadahasta. The Goddess Sridevi and Bhudevi sit in separate shrines inside the temple. The temple is also unique in the way that the stone carved idols of the temple produces musical notes when struck. Throughout the temple there are beautifully carved sculptures depicting various gods and goddess and the sacred animals. The temple is also rich in finely carved pillars. festivals- The temple commences annual gathering during the 11 days Brahmotsavam in Purattasi (September-October) and Vaikunda Ekadasi in December-January.
