Yercaud a hill station popular tourist destination, called as Jewel of the South is located in the Shevaroys range of hills in the Eastern Ghats. It is named so due to the abundance of trees categorized as a forest near the lake, the name signifying Lake Forest.

  • Shevaroy Hills:

It is houses the Servarayan temple, at 5,326 feet. Coffee and citrus fruits like oranges, are grown in large quantity, as well as other fruits like bananas, pears and jack fruit are grown here.

It is as captivating and scenic as the hill stations on the Eastern Ghats and trekking here is one of the most delightful experiences.

  • Kiliyur Falls:

It is a waterfall in the Shervaroyan hill range in the Eastern Ghats. The waters overflowing the Yercaud Lake fall into the Kiliyur Valley.

The falls is situated at a distance of 2.5 km from the lake. It is a breathtaking sight in the monsoon time when the water levels are at the maximum.

The best time to visit this place is immediately after the monsoons.

  • Lady’ Seat:

It has derived its name from a set of rocks made naturally. The place also houses a viewing tower, which is equipped with a telescope so as to enjoy the beautiful view of Mettur Dam and Salem town.

This viewing tower is open for visitors only during the day time. Tourists can have a panoramic view of the plains below through the telescope mounted at the Lady’s seat.

  • Lake Boat House:

The lake is perfect for boating, with the option of paddle or row boats. Two and four seater row boats are available for a leisure ride

Families with children of different ages has several activities like balloon shooting or experiment with roller balloons, enjoy boating and rent cycles.

The boathouse is extremely well equipped and in the monsoons and the timings of the boat house and park are strictly between 9 am and 5:30 pm.

  • Karadiyur View Point:

It is a vertical cliff with a beautiful view of valley and Mettur Dam.

The viewpoint is located in Karadiyur Village. A wonderful location to enjoy the beauty of nature. The view of sunrise as well as sunset from this location is a unique attraction.

Tourists, nature lovers, adventure seekers and photographers will enjoy a visit to the Karadiyur viewpoint.

The best time to visit the Karadiyur viewpoint would be from November to March.

  • Kurumbapatti Zoological Park:

Kurumbapatti Zoological Park, situated on a expansive 11.5 hectares of reserve forest land, at the foothills of Shevaroyan Hills. It is a small zoological park with natural beautiful environs. The Park is packed with diverse type of animals.

Now, from the Chennai, Vandalur Anna Zoological Park two white Peacocks, some small Cranes are brought to this park.

The other birds are four Alexandrine parakeets, 20 rose-ringed parakeets and five plum-headed parakeets have arrived from the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur to be displayed in enclosed spaces put up for them at the Kurumbapatti zoo.

Separate enclosures were made for the parakeets to make sure that the visitors have a good view of these splendid birds.

The star tortoises were also kept in a separate area. The park already has pairs of crocodiles, deer and tortoises.
