Vivekananda Rock Memorial Kanyakumari
Vivekananda Rock Memorial monument situated on a rocky island is one of the finest pieces of structural design in India’s southernmost tip, Kanyakumari.
It was built in 1970 in honor of Swami Vivekananda who is said to have swum to this small rocky island and meditated here in his quest for enlightenment.
The local legends acquaint that Goddess Kumari performed austerity on this rock.
A meditation Hall – Dhyana Mandapam is also attached to the memorial for visitors to meditate. The Mandapa incorporates diverse styles of temple architecture all over India.
Apart from the statue of great preacher Vivekananda, the memorial consists of two main structures, the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam.
The Shripada Mandapam has a study hall and museum and the Vivekananda Mandapam adds to the spiritual significance and purity of the memorial.
