Uppiliappan Temple / Oppilliappan Temple

At the holy village of Thirunageswaram, sits the Uppiliappan Temple. It is a sacred Hindu temple, also popular by the name Thiruvinnagar of Venkatachalapathy Temple. The temple worships Lord Vishnu and sees the Dravidian style of architecture. The temple holds the prestige of being in 60th position among the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the form of Lord Uppiliappan and Goddess Lakshmi as Bhumi Dev.
The temple is believed to be built during the rules of the Medieval Cholas in the 8th century AD and was later completed in the times of Thanjavur Nayaks. The temple consists of five-tiered gopuram. Also the temple possesses two inscriptions dating from the Chola period. The temple is looked after by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu, Festivals- The temple commence annuals celebrations on Panchguni Festival (aka Chariot Festival) during March- April.
