Udayagiri Fort stands at the Thiruvananthapuram – Nagercoil National Highway as a memory of the historic Travancore dynasty. The fort is thought to be constructed in 1600 AD, which was later refurbished by the Travancore King Marthanda Varma between 1741 – 1744.  Udayagiri Fort was important to headquarter for the Travancore kings. Later, in the 19th century, the East India Company took over the control of the fort. The fort was formally famous by the name De Lannoy’s Fort or Dillannai Kottai. Upon the name of a Dutch general who was defeated by Marthanda Varma in the battle at Vattakottai Fort and then served the king for next 37 years with loyalty. Udayagiri Fort includes tomb of De Lannoy, his wife and son. Also, to see here is a beautiful Biodiversity Park with stunning varieties of deers, ducks, birds, and trees.
