Thiruthuraipoondi aka TTP is a city and a municipality in Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu, famed as an agricultural town.

There are a lot of unexplored beaches between Thriuthuraipoondi and Kodiyakarai. As per evidence Thiruthuraipoondi beach dates back 6,000 years and the Kodiyakarai beach 1,100 years. It also describes that the sea was near Thiruthuraipoondi 6,000 years ago and reached Kodiyakarai around 1,100 years ago.

Its a backpackers paradise. The place is well connected with various modes of transportation with neigbouring towns. Thiruthuraipoondi train timings are not available as train service has been stopped due to ongoing broad gauge conversion between Thiruvarur Junction and Karaikudi Junction rail route.

It is located at center of many towns like Mannargudi, Thiruvarur, Muthupet, Vedaranyam, Velankanni, Nagappattinam. So buses are available to these major towns are available from the Thiruthuraipoondi Bus Stand.

Sri Piravi Marundeeswarar Temple here is devoted to Lord Siva, the deity here is in the form of Gajasamhara Murthy killing a demon, which is a tale of Lord Siva destroying the pride, arrogance and jealous from the hearts of the devotees.

It is believed that if people offer prayers during full moon days and new moon days they will have a prosperous life devoid of sorrows.

There are ample festivals celebrated here among them the Chithirai festival during April-May, Navratri (Sep-Oct) and Shivaratri festivals are outstanding .

There is a belief that if people born in Ashwini Star visit this temple and do special offerings to Thiruthuraipoondi temple all their sins will vanish and they will have a new birth. This temple is recommended for the people with the problems in marriage, child boon and studies.

The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
