Theni, a village in part of Tamil Nadu is known for the large-scale trading of garlic, cotton, cardamom, grapes and chilli.

Suruli Aruvi situated in Surulipatti is a famous waterfall. Hill stations like Meghamalai and Vellimalai, Vaigai Dam Sothuparai Dam and Shanmuganadhi Dam are the major tourist attractions here. Other tourist spots include, Kumbakkarai Falls, Veerapandi, and Kurangani, Kolukkumalai, Top station.

  • Cumbum:

The name Cumbum has derived from the famous temple of Lord Narayana (Cumbaraya Perumal) around which the town has been built during Pallava rule. This temple is considered as a holy place.

Another historical temple is Nantha Gopalan temple. Mattu Pongal is very famous in this temple. All the nearby villagers come here with Bullock carts. We can get clay made bullocks during this fesival.

Cumbum Valley is the most fertile valley in south India that includes lands between Thekkadi Hills, Varusanadu Hills, and Kodaikanal Hills.

The water in Cumbum is very sweet to drink and it is one of the few places in Tamil Nadu producing grapes.

  • Gudalur:

It is a very beautiful place located in the western Ghats region and it is famous for the bullock cart racing heritage. Every year bullock cart races takes place during the Muthalamman temple festival.

The Azhagar Swamy Temple is said to be over 1,000 years old built by the Poonjar Rajas of Kerala. It is built with the same architecture of Madurai Alagar temple.

The Mangaladevi Kottam, an ancient temple, which is devoted to Kannagi, the Tamil goddess is situated very close to Gudalur.

  • Bodinayakanur:

It is known as “Cardamom Capital of India” and it is situated at the foot-hill of Western Ghats. The presence of cool weather and natural beauties, made,

Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India to called the city as “South Kashmir”. As it is surrounded by the ranges of Western Ghats on three sides it offers spectacular views of the Ghats.

During the nineteenth century, it was an important place in the Nayakar rule. There is a small palace built by the Bodanayakar which resembles Jaipur Palace.

Athiyuthu, Anakarai two hilly areas are located to the north of Bodinayakanur.This place is famous for high quality coffee production. The locations in and around Bodi abound in scenic locations.

Nearby hill station location are Kurangani, Central Station, Topstation, Agamalai, Bodi Mettu and Kozhuku Malai. Kotakudi Plantation which is located in Kozhuku Malai, is the world highest grown tea are cultivated.

  • Megamalai:

It is also called High Wavy Mountains and it is a cool and misty mountain range situated in the Western Ghats.  It is a place of natural beauty dotted with cardamom plantations and tea estates.  This area, now mostly planted with tea, includes Cloudlands, Highwavys and Manalaar estates, the access to which is now largely restricted. It still includes large untouched remnants of evergreen forest

Six dams on the hill and originating place of Suruli Theertham are popular attractions for tourists. From Manalar dam, one can view the deep Cumbum Valley and the villages.

Vellimalai area is a heart of Meghamalai. Silver-lined clouds seem to rest gently on green hilltops and nestled somewhere in this region and it is the place where the river Vaigai originates. This lovely place will give an opportunity to see wild animals and aesthetically and scientifically managed tea gardens.

The Meghamalai Falls also called as Clouds land fall occurs on Suruli River originating in the Meghamalai Hills. The special feature of the falls is that water is flowing down through twin falls round the year.

Frequent visits by elephants, spotted deer, gaur and other wild animals at dawn and dusk are a feast to the eyes. Forest Department officials have plans to assist tourists to view those wild animals.

  • Periyakulam:

It is also known as ‘pi City’ as it’s famous for its sweet pi. Periyakulam is also known for its sweet water which comes from the Berijam Lake Kodaikanal and blessed with nice weather throughout the year.

Periyakulam itself has so many tourist places in and around such as Sothuparai Dam, Kumbakarai Falls, Theertha Thotti, Vaigai Dam, Manjalar Dam, Thekkady, Surulithirtham, Munnar and many more.

  • Andipatti:

Andipatti is on the bank of Vaigai River with rich flora and fauna species. It is a valley surrounded by mountains and Western Ghats originates from here. Vaigai Dam built across the Vaigai River provides water for irrigation for the Madurai district and the Dindigul district as well as drinking water to Madurai and Andipatti.

A small and beautiful park is maintained by the Water Resources Department on both sides of the Dam. A small bridge connects the two sides of the park in front of the dam. The park also has a children play area.

  • Devadanapatti:

Devadanapatti is located at the foothills of Kodaikanal Hills. Moongilinai Kamatchi Amman temple is one of the famous temple here. The main door of this temple is never opened and poojas are performed only to the door. Maha Shivaratri (Tamil month of Masi) on March is the only festival which is celebrated in this temple.

  • Suruli falls:

It is a two stage cascading water fall. The River Suruli supplying the falls originates from the Meghamalai mountain range. The falls drop from a height of 150 feet gathers into a pool. The beauty of this falls finds mention in the ancient Tamil epic, Silappathikaram written by the poet Ilango Adigal.

Near this falls are five caves which represent Indian rock-cut architecture of the 11th Century. The water is said to act as medicine and cure diseases.It is one of the major tourist attractions and draws tourists from different parts of the state, particularly during the southwest monsoon. June – October is the best season

Suruli hills is the part of the Pothigai Malai which is a highly divine and spiritual center.
