Parthasarathy Temple, Chennai
One of the popular Vishnu temples in Chennai is the Parthasarathy Temple. Builth probably in the 8th century, this temple is a good example of the Dravidian style of architecture. The main deity of the temple is Lord Vishnu, who is worshiped in five different forms, namely, Narasimha, Rama, Gajendra Varadaraja, Ranganatha, and Krishna. The temple derived its name from the version of Lord Krishna as the handler of Chariot of Arjun during Mahabharata. The temple holds its place on among the 108 Divya Desams or holy shrines of Lord Vishnu. Apart from the main deity, there are temples for other gods and goddess as well. The temple sees hundreds of devotees every year.
