Mela Thiruvenkatanathapuram Temple

Sri Venkatachalapathy Temple aka Thirunankovil Temple makes its place on the shores of Thamirabarani River over the hilltop of Swetha Varaha hill. The temple is also popular by the name- The Mela Thiruvenkatanathapuram and derived its name from the village it is located in- The Mela Thiruvenkatanathapuram village. The temple worships Lord Srinivasa, a form of Lord Vishnu. This temple has great religious value and the local peoples often compare it with the Tirupathi and thus call this temple ‘Then Thirupathi’, which proves the faith of the devotees towards the presiding god. The temple holds many religious stories behind its existence and construction. The local people believe that Sage Pylor was the one who is responsible for the construction of the temple. It, later on, has undergone renovation and gained its current shape about 700 years ago. The main shrine holds the glorious statue of Venkatachalapathy and his two consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. The idol of the presiding deity is beautiful, with conch and discus in his hands. The temple also houses bronze idols of Garuda and Hanuman in the maha mandapa. Other deities who take place in the temple are Ramanujar, Senai Mudaliar, and Vishvaksena. The temple is very popular amongst the people seeking for a child. There are special poojas and rituals performed for their wish to come true. Festivals- The temple commences grand gathering during the festival of Garuda Seva, which falls on every Saturday of the Tamil Month of Vaikasi (September/October).
