Kanchipuram is a city of thousand temples and famed to be Golden City of Temples located on the banks of the River Vegavathy.

Kancheepuram is one of the Seven Tirtha or pilgrimage sites according to Hinduism. It is believed that a visit to this temple town bestows salvation. It is also considered sacred by Buddhists and Jains too.

It has been chosen as one of the heritage cities for HRIDAY – Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of Government of India. Other places to visit in Kanchipuram includes ancient times Jama Masjid built by the Carnatic Nawabs which houses one of the 108 Sivalingams; Christ Church built by Mclean, a British citizen in 1921.Paintings, Traditional Dressing & Make-up Cases, Silk ,Cotton and Handloom men and women’s wear, Jewellery and Indological Books.

Kancheepuram is also famous for lustrous Kanchipuram silk sarees or Kanjeevaram silks. It is a traditional centre of silk weaving and handloom industries for producing Kanchipuram Saree.
