Kanchipuram

Kanchipuram is a city of thousand temples and famed to be Golden City of Temples located on the banks of the River Vegavathy.

Kancheepuram is one of the Seven Tirtha or pilgrimage sites according to Hinduism. It is believed that a visit to this temple town bestows salvation. It is also considered sacred by Buddhists and Jains too.

It has been chosen as one of the heritage cities for HRIDAY – Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of Government of India. Kancheepuram is also famous for lustrous Kanchipuram silk sarees or Kanjeevaram silks. It is a traditional centre of silk weaving and handloom industries for producing Kanchipuram Saree.
