Kamaraj Memorial

The Kamaraj memorial is dedicated to Late. Sri. Kamarajar, The freedom fighter, a veteran political leader, Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the President of Indian National Congress. He holds the Bharat Ratna award too. Kamaraj was very much loved by the people of the state due to his many social deeds and works for the betterment of his people. He introduced the ‘free meal scheme’ in the schools to encourage poor children for going to school, which was taken as the inspiration by many other states as well. The Kamaraj Memorial sees its place where Shri Kamaraj’s cremated ashes were kept at Kanyakumari seashore, for the public to pay homage before being immersed in the sea, after his demise. The memorial was constructed on the same place were his ashes were kept before immersion in the sea. The memorial is costed around 50 lakhs to built and got opened for public on 2nd October 2000. Inclusions- The Kamaraj memorial has a rare collection of photographs depicting the important events and the life history of Shri. Kamaraj “The Black Gandhi”. The Memorial also has a functioning library which can be assessed on interest.
