Dhanushkodi is a small, sparsely populated beach town. In 1964, Dhanushkodi witnessed one of the worst storms of India. The town since then has seen very fewer residents and a maximum of the tourists. Dhanushkodi can be considered as the closest point on the Indian coast to Srilanka. The place emerged as the popular tourist destination and now welcomes thousands of pilgrims visiting Rameshwaram every year. The place has religious importance too. This place seems still in the ancient era. It has become isolated from the rest of the country, but that makes it’s unique and eager for the tourists to visit. The ruined town of Dhanushkodi shows the storm destroyed railway lines, The scantly populated village and some of the beautiful virgin beaches of the country. Dhanushkodi derived its name from the story of Lord Rama breaking the bridge from one end of his bow.
