Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden
The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, aka the Botanical Garden or the company garden is one of the most revered tourist places in Howrah. The garden was established in the year 1787 and since then is pulling the biology and nature lovers from across the country all year round.
The garden is huge, covering a total area of 273 acres. It holds a vast collection of plants from over the world. There are live as well as preserved specimens of the exotic species of plants rare to find anywhere else. The place is a must-visit for the botany research scholars.
The garden houses 25 divisions, glasshouses, greenhouses and conservatories. The main attraction of the garden is its huge and 250-year-old Banyan tree. This tree has got a place in the Guinness Book of World Records lists. This massive tree acquires a large area of land with its thousands of aerial branches.
The garden also boasts a lake with boating facilities, a library with books on botany and horticulture.
