Kanchanaburi Bridge

In the Kanchanaburi district of Thailand lies a historic bridge over the River Kwai. The Bridge is often addressed with the name The Death Bridge due to the shaking and the disturbing history it holds.

The bridge is 300m-long and was constructed by the prisoners and the POW laborers. The bridge witnessed a massive bomb attack in 1945 and thus retains only some of its original portion and the rest were constructed later. Thousands of the workers lost their lives in the massive attack and thus it became famous as the death railway.

Originally named as The Burma Railway, the system now holds other names too as Death Railway, the Siam–Burma Railway, the Thai–Burma Railway, etc. It was constructed as a 415-kilometer long railway to be operated between Ban Pong, Thailand, and Thanbyuzayat, Burma.

The bridge is now opened by the tourists, where one can walk along or take a train ride.
