Weligama

Weligama sees itself as a town on the south coast of Sri Lanka, in Matara District, Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Weligama translates to the “sandy village”. It has been named so because of its beautiful beach having crystal clear blue waters, soft sands and dense palm trees. One of the major attraction here is the island of Taprobane. Weligama makes a prominent destination for surfing and fishing in Sri Lanka.

Coconut Plantations in Weligama makes one of the wonderful spots to be visited. One can see a lot of handmade coconut items here as mats, ropes and nets. Another attractive place to be visited here is the Snake Farm. It teaches the visitors about nature and the life of this very reptile. The town is also an ideal place to go around biking and cycling exploring the vast fields and the sacred temples of the place. One can also go for Whale and Dolphin Watching in the nearby town of Mirissa. Weligama is famous for holding some of the famed historical sites of the country. There are much more to done and enjoyed here.
