Dambulla

The Central Province of Sri Lanka sees an amazing town in itself known by the name Dambulla. The place is famed for housing many historical monuments, wildlife and also is the centre of vegetable distribution across the country. Dambulla offers many scenic spots to its visitors. Minneriya National Park is a real treat for nature lovers. One may take a Jeep safari and have some interaction with the wild ones. The park is famed for housing lots of wild elephants. Sigiriya, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Sigiriya Lion Rock is a must-visit place in Sri Lanka. The site features a fortress and temple complex over a volcanic plateau. The place is worth visiting because of its unique architecture and historical importance. Surrounding the monuments are the beautiful gardens adding to the glamour of the Palace. Popham’s Arboretum is an artificial forest which houses numerous species of trees, birds, butterflies, dragonflies and much more. The place is usually flocked by the nature lovers looking for serenity. 

Buddhist Museum & Museum of Wall Paintings, the place is famed for holding Asia’s largest Buddha statue. The statue is huge and awe-inspiring. The golden statue depicts Lord Buddha in the Dhyan Chakra mudra. The museum also holds the beautiful, finely carved sculptures of the Buddhists Monks and the authentic Srilankan artworks.

Ibbankatuwa Megalithic Tombs, this historic place holds the history of the Sri Lankans. The place holds a museum that houses collectables which were unearthed here from the burial grounds. Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Sprawling over 60 acres, the 30,000-seat cricket stadium is located near the Dambulla reservoir. Kalu Diya Pokuna, It is the famous trekking trail of the area leading to the top of the hill with picturesque views, a small pond and ruins of an ancient Buddhist temple. You can also spot sacred caves here. This serene place is making a perfect birds & butterflies spotting place.
