Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura sees itself as a major city in Sri Lanka. It stands as the capital city of North Central Province, Sri Lanka and the capital of Anuradhapura District. The city is seen as a sacred one as it holds must importance among the Buddhist devotees. The city is famed for housing a sapling from the Fig tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. This sacred place is adorned with numerous palaces, monasteries and monuments. Because of it is flooded with the tourists and the devotees all year long.

Anuradhapura also sees itself as the UNESCO World Heritage Center because of its well-preserved ruins of an ancient Sinhala civilisation. Other attractions of the town are Abhayagiri Monastery, Samadhi Buddha, Kuttam Pokuna, The Mirisawati Dagoba, Isurumuniya Temple, Thuparama dagoba and much more. Also to visit here is the Brazen Palace which holds 1600 stone pillars arranged in 40 rows.
