Public Transport from Cochin to Munnar gets you along Munnar, one of the most beautiful hill stations in Kerala cuddled by the Western Ghats which stands 1500m above sea level is visited by tourists from all over the world.

It provides the most pleasant and cool atmosphere with breath-taking view of beautiful landscapes, ever green tea/coffee plantations, cascading waterfalls, small rivers and streams, tall and stunning mountains touching the sky, luscious and dense forests, and brilliantly blue sky and clouds. During the hot and humid summer months, a trip to the cool and chilly Munnar will keep you cool from the sweltering heat.

Tourists from Indian and abroad are regular visitors to this beautiful hill station, amongst which many are honeymoon-goers. They also come to visit the Neelakurinji, a blue flower found only in this region which blooms once in every twelve years and the Anamudi hills, which is the highest peak in South India.

The wildlife in Munnar is also quite a sight to see, the Eravikulam National Park features endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr or mountain goat, elephants, langur, gaur, lion-tailed macaque etc. The temperature can go as low as 0 C and as high as 28 C, warm clothing is usually preferred while planning you trip to Munnar, during the seasonal months of August to March.

How to reach Munnar?

Once you land in Kerala by air, rail or road here are the different ways by which you can reach Munnar, your holiday destination. The modes of public transport from Kochi to Munnar are KSRTC bus, private bus, taxi and the railway.

By Airway

If you just landed in Nedumbassery or Cochin International Airport, which is the nearest airport, you are 110 kms (3 hours) away from Munnar.

You can reach by hiring a taxi from the airport direct to Munnar, where the roads are well connected and you can have a refreshing journey enjoying the scenic beauty of the state, taking in natural fresh air.

Taxi charges can be a little high starting from 1500Rs to 3000Rs depending upon the type of car, a/c and non a/c.

By Railway

If you just arrived in Kochi by train to Ernakulam Town station or Ernakulam Junction station, then you are 130 kms away from your destination. The nearest railway station to Munnar is Aluva, where you can get down and hire a taxi or take a private bus or state government bus (KSRTC) to Munnar which is 110 kms away. The bus fares are relatively low and cost effective and you can travel more like a local in bus; you can also see small villages and towns where the bus stops enjoying scenic view of Kerala. There are frequent buses to Munnar and may take three to five hours to reach the hill station.

By Roadway

If you are taking a private taxi to Munnar from Kochi, you are 130 kms away from reaching your terminus. You may choose to go through routes like Kothamangalam, Adimali etc. where the roads are very smooth and also twisty, curvy and narrow with scenic beauty of landscapes on either side.

Luscious dense forests, invigorating waterfalls, tea plantations, panoramic view of Western Ghats, sight of rare animals and more  awaits you making way for a refreshing and rejuvenating trip to Munnar.

The four hour long journey can include stop overs at beautiful spots, munching on snacks from roadside vendors, dipping your leg in cool streams and waterfalls etc.
